This is an official request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, to hand over information related to,
- Complaints received from individuals who had experienced poor misconduct or mistreatment from Vancouver police officers spanning from the start of Covid-19 in February of 2020 till when the lock downs started to become less strict in December of 2021.

I made this type of request in as in the last couple of years or so, the discussion of abuse of power from police officers have been rampant as we have seen many stories and headlines in the news of certain cases in which police have not acted diligently and carefully, but were rather brutish and aggressive. I chose the dates carefully as when the start of Covid was just starting to happen, most people were staying home and listening to the guidelines that worked to prevent the spread of the virus. However, it also made people very sick of staying at home for long periods of time and a lot of people wanted to be able to go out again and live their lives as it was before the virus. That is why I only want a list of complaints that goes till the end of 2021, as during that time, many places of social gatherings such as clubs and events were starting to open to the public. This means that a surge of people, especially young adults, started to go out more. This means I can possibly see the rise of complaints in 2021 when comparing it to 2020, as more people were starting to come out which means they would have dealt with the presence of Vancouver police officers more.

ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting FOI request because this can help to find police behavior with people during covid when citizens were really tired and stressed from living in four walls. One thing I would have done If I was doing this FOI request is adding articles, information, or news which made me interested to write an FOI request about this particular topic.
